Austin Vipers Football Team - Founded in 2011, Austin's Premier Minor League Football Attraction.
Austin Ice Bats - Sadly, they're now defunct (1996-2008), but a cool story about their crazy name. The hockey team was named in honor of the Mexican Free-tailed Bats (Tadarida brasiliensis) which nest under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge in the city. Somewhere between 750,000 and 1.5 million of the flying rats reside underneath the bridge each summer.
